Installing IIS on XP Pro

Today I did a fresh install of Windows XP Pro and tried to get IIS going again.  I kept getting the message, “Setup cannot copy the file staxmem.dll.insert Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 CD.” I tried a variety of things before browsing around google and the newsgroups.  Finally I found the solution:

Follow these steps to resolve this issue.

  1. Click on the Windows Start Menu.
  2. Click Run.
  3. Type esentutl /p %windir%\security\database\secedit.sdb in the Open box, and click OK.
  4. Install IIS through the Control Panel Add/Remove Windows Components applet.

  1. Thanks for posting this, it was most helpful.

  2. I tried this solution but it didn’t help. Just wanted to know if I’m the only one who needs another solution…

  4. This worked perfectly for me too. I couldn’t get past this point until I tried this fix.

    Thanks for that.
