Today I did a fresh install of Windows XP Pro and tried to get IIS going again. I kept getting the message, “Setup cannot copy the file staxmem.dll.insert Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 CD.” I tried a variety of things before browsing around google and the newsgroups. Finally I found the solution:
Follow these steps to resolve this issue.
- Click on the Windows Start Menu.
- Click Run.
- Type esentutl /p %windir%\security\database\secedit.sdb in the Open box, and click OK.
- Install IIS through the Control Panel Add/Remove Windows Components applet.

Today I was talking to a business associate about the variety of ways to promote a new site and Myspace came up. Here is my response in email.
Ideas for Myspace? To be honest I don’t get the Myspace craze. I have never seen a collection of more crap in one place in my life. I don’t think you need to go the Myspace route. Its original intent was a place for bands to put their music and it turned into a pedophile hangout.
I then mentioned Digg. I jumped over to Digg to find the submit url link and the top story on Digg is A Scientific Approach to Myspace?s Failure. Good entry to read ... this guy is right on:
It all started when I wanted to find a reason why the core of my Internet-saturated being hates Myspace. For fun one day, I searched within Myspace?s profiles for the following phrases:
* 9620: “I’m going to kill myself”
* 72,000: “I’m rick James Bitch”
* 3,100,000: wierd
* Man! This is fun, thought I.
His site is getting killed with traffic right now --- keep trying, good stuff.

Few links I wanted to share today.
There is a good article at Firewheel Design about the The Secret to Small Business Success. They break down how you can come up with your hourly rate and the rationale behind it.
The other link is for a friend’s, Matt Casey, new site - MelodyTrip. The site is in beta right now as they are working out some UI issues and adding more features but check it out as it is growing each day. MelodyTrip is a site for music fans and people who go to festivals. They house a pretty comprehensive list of all the music festivals out there and are signing on bloggers to report the happenings at the festivals as well as a bunch of other stuff. Check it out.

I am thinking of getting rid of my cell phone and just getting a CB. Seems like people don?t really want cell phones anymore, they want walkie talkies. I despise Nextel phones. It is bad enough I have to listen to one side of the conversation everyplace I go; I also get to enjoy the other side now. It usually involves each party yelling over the phone which makes it even better for me.
The latest thing I am starting to see is people who don?t have Nextel phones using their cell phone like a Nextel phone. These people crank up the volume on the ear piece and walk around with the phone in front of their face. They talk loud and squint to hear what the other person is saying. How does squinting your eyes help you hear any better? Does the lack of vision heighten your hearing? I know, I know, squinting with the finger point to the ear signals you can?t hear --- that is a visual queue and the person on the phone can?t see it so stop doing it.
I wonder if these same people use speaker phone at home for all their calls.
