New Puppy Naming

Since we aren’t allowed to save a dog, we have purchased one.  We pick up the little guy July 24.  We have decided to let my 28-month-old daughter, Cailyn, help with the name.  Here are how the “negotiations” went.

Me: What do you want to name the new puppy?
Cailyn: Jonah
Me: How about Steve?
Cailyn: How about Jonah? (clever)
Me: How about Buzz?
Cailyn: How about Jonah?
Me: How about Bullseye?
Cailyn: How about Jonah?
Me: How about Jonah? (trying a little trickery)
Cailyn: That’s his name.

So that is his name .... for now.

Trying To Do The Right Thing

My wife and I have decided to get another dog.  We currently have a 10 year old lab/springer spaniel mix and thought it would be nice for him to have a friend, and for our children to have a puppy in order to hopefully ease some of the trauma down the line when the old guy leaves us.

We thought we would do the right thing and call the local rescues and “save” a dog.  We found several places online and started to see a pattern.  Most wanted to interview you, check out how big your yard and house are, etc.  Understandable, however here comes the curious part: they won’t let someone adopt a dog unless your children are at least 6 years old (Both my children are under 3).  The reasoning is that most people with younger children usually return the dog...why? I cannot imagine.  We realize the responsibility of owning a dog while raising a family. We are willing to rescue an unwanted animal give him a loving home, and yet now we have to go spend money on a dog that anyone would love! No wonder there are so many homeless animals. It’s tough to get a dog that no one wants...yet the only thing you need to get a pure bred is money. These rescue shelters must be run by republicans…

(The republicans line was my wife’s, a good line - figured I’d give her credit.  She is the most non-politcal person I know.)

GMAIL for Charity

I currently have access to several invites for GMAIL and expect to have more shortly.  Instead of giving them away, I have decided to ask for a donation.  The money donated will go to the Smile Train.

Donate any amount; the higher donations will get the invites.  I won?t accept your donation if you don?t get a GMAIL account.

Update: A lot of people of asked the right amount to donate.  $5.00 - $10.00 I think is more then fair.  It all goes to charity.

If you have invites and you would like to pledge them to this cause let me know.

GMAIL Accounts

I have some new GMAIL invites if anyone is interested.  Just post a comment on this entry.

Update: I randomly picked 3 people to get accounts and they have been notified.  I have a couple invites left but am thinking of a more creative way to give them out.  Stay tuned ....

Seth Godin - The Curse of Great Expectations

Seth Godin, Permission Marketing Guru, recently posted an entry to his blog about expectations.  Take a moment to read it, absorb it and try to follow it—it is more a lesson in life than a lesson in business.

He should use this at a commencement address.  Not as funny as Jon Stewart’s, but good.
