New Tears for Fears

After 13 years apart, Tears for Fears is back together again and is releasing a new album - ”Everybody Loves a Happy Ending”. The first single, ”Closest Thing to Heaven”, should be playing on the radio now. After listening to it several times, you can’t help but hear the Beatles influence. I?m not a Beatles fan, so for me to notice it makes it pretty obvious.
While I was trying to find a release date for the single I found this:
Memorable melodies fill the songs of Everybody Loves A Happy Ending, and those who heard the Beatles in Roland and Curt?s last work together may again hear them here. It?s inescapable. `When we did `Sowing The Seeds Of Love? we were doing Lennon,? says Roland. ?And I would say the main influence for this album was McCartney. Because,? he grins, ? I think McCartney is the new Lennon.?
So I guess I heard right ?
Curt Smith left the band back in 1989, and Roland Orzabal continued on alone until 1996. Both went on to do solo albums. I never heard Curt?s solo work but I do own and enjoy Roland’s album - ”Tom Cats Screaming Outside”. Good pick up if you are a TFF fan.
